Types of Disciplines in Psychology
Psychology is a science that studies human mental phenomena and the mental functions and behavioral activities influenced by them, emphasizing both theoretical and practical (applied) aspects.
Psychology encompasses two major areas: basic psychology and applied psychology. Its research involves numerous fields, including perception, cognition, emotion, thinking, personality, behavioral habits, interpersonal relationships, and social relations, and it is also connected to many aspects of daily life—such as family, education, health, and society.
Psychology, on one hand, attempts to explain individuals’ basic behaviors and mental functions through the workings of the brain. At the same time, it also seeks to clarify the role of individual mental functions in social behavior and social dynamics. Moreover, it is related to disciplines such as neuroscience, medicine, philosophy, biology, and religious studies, as the physiological or psychological processes explored by these fields can influence an individual's mind. In fact, many humanities and natural sciences are connected to psychology, since human mental activities are inherently intertwined with the human living environment.
